Ruby's Gray

This exclusive color is unique to Ruby Mountain and is my version of the traditional Payne's Gray. Named after my sweet girl Ruby, a Staffordshire Terrier who was my studio companion until her death at age 12 in 2019. This color is the exact same shade as her blue brindle coat.

I always use this color as an opportunity to donate to a local animal charity. For this batch, $5 from every half pan and $2 from every mini pan will be donated to the Larimer Humane Society, our local animal shelter. 

This unique color can vary from dark gray to a beautifully separating and granulating wash.

Ruby’s Gray is as beautiful as the story & heart behind it’s color & name.

Like so many people, I LOVE colors. The way the brilliant color moves and dances across the page. In all honesty, what touched me, deeply, was the story behind the name of this particular color, Ruby. It takes such courage to be vulnerable, period. Still especially as an artist which, to me, goes hand in hand. To honor her studio companoon & sweetheart in such a way, I would have ordered it even if I didn’t feel drawn to the color. Something that rooted in love is bound to be the heart and soul behind a painting. I know I’ve found it to be so, already, as I grab for it most. Wish I had it here to take a photo of it for you.
